Another Batch of Cards ...

Hi Everybody,

This batch of "Thank You" cards have been created with the sentiment added with silver foil using the Minc Machine

I also stamped and heat embossed in white the doily pattern at the top of each corner.

I used the Doily Fun  stamp set from Spellbinders for this  and I used the Misti to help me get the same look on each card

I have ink blended over the card with Distress inks and once I had done that it looked awful. They where on their way to the trash can when I decided to wait and see what happened.

I am relieved to say that once the ink had dried it all seemed to go smooth and I added some water splatters onto the ink then blotted it off with a paper towel.

I was not too un happy with the result.  I added in the Ikea Baked dots and they don't look too bad.

I have added them all to a clear plastic card box complete with the white envelopes and they will make a gift for someone to use.

Winner of the Brusho Cards

Hi Everybody

Here I am back at home after a really informative day with YouTube yesterday.  I learned so much from them and it was well worth the trip up to Edinburgh.  The weather has been kind too ... cold but very sunny and the journey itself was very pleasant.

Coming home today we joined the motorway with the River Clyde running alongside the road. We passed such diverse scenery on our route home ... from tree covered mountains, to land covered with grass so short, that from a distance it almost looked like velvet.

Dotted every so often with white bundles of wool peacefully grazing away, and many of them have new lambs playing alongside them in the fields

No camera can capture the beauty that the eye can see,  with all the changes of texture and light. We sure do live in a a beautiful green country. Every bend on the way home produced something different to thrill the senses.

Now as promised I have done the draw for the two black Brusho cards and the winner is ...

Wease Rainey
please would you send me your postal address to
christina@card-making-magic.com
and the cards will be on their way to you straight away.

You have 48 hours from now to claim them and I hope you will like them when they arrive. Please let me know when they are with you.

Friday Freebie 107

Hi Everybody,

This week I am giving away two more of the Brusho Crystal Coloured Cards and these two are done with the black powder.

I have used the positive and negative pieces to the coloured card so as to waste nothing and they turned out really well.

They have been featured on the blog before and have been the subject of a video tutorial ... here is the link  to refresh your memory ...
One Background Two Cards

They are  not finished on the inside and you can use them as you would like.

They will both go to one winner. If you would like to win these two then all you need to do is leave me a comment.  From those comments a name will be drawn and the winner announced in a blog posts but not until Sunday this weekend

I am off to Edinburgh today for the weekend as I have been invited to join a YouTube Creator Day on Saturday.  I am really looking forward to this and I am sure that there is a lot to learn. But hopefully whatever I learn will benefit us all in the future.

It will help me to make better videos to enhance your enjoyment of them. My "Film Crew" is also going with me and it will be a really good weekend.

We love Edinburgh and I shared that holiday with you on the blog pages when we went  for a holiday a while ago.  When  I get back on Sunday  I will write a blog post ... see you soon.

More later ...

Create a Glitter Background

Hi Everybody,

Today another Video will go live on YouTube and this is the card that is featured.

It is the Glitter Background Card and is a really pretty effect.

Here I am showing you just two looks but you can experiment and see what you come up with.

It is created with a fine glitter that I buy from Glitter Magic  and double sided sheets and the video will take you through the steps to take.

 If you pop across to view it then why not join the list of subscribers so that you will not miss any new tutorials in the future.

I said I would add them regularly on the first and third Thursday of every month ... but so far I have added a new one each week.

They are all there for you to watch and they are not long.

Water Colour Wednesday - Baby Fairies

Hi Everybody,

This cute little image is from Mos Digital Pencil and is one of the Baby Fairies.

Once you have bought this you can  instantly download it to your PC  ... so no waiting for the postman to deliver it, and you can use it time and time. again, varying the sizes on your PC if you wish

This has been water coloured with Gansai Tambi and then I used Spectrum Noir Pencils for some of the highlights.

I made a sky background behind the fairy and cut it all out with the oval shape

The sentiment has been stamped and heat embossed onto parchment and then wrapped around the card front.

I added in the diamante flourish for a little decoration.

Then I added in some gold paint to the wings and that for me spoiled the image and I wish I had just left it alone   Of dear !! never mind I can have fun doing it all over again ... or I could simply cut the wings off !!

Tuesday Tutorial - Combining Dies

Hi Everybody,

For todays tutorial I have combined several dies from my collection and they have all been around for quite a while. But no matter how old or new your dies are they will all play nicely together to make a really pretty card for you.
 Spellbinders Supplies:

Other Supplies:
Cut two pieces of white card from #7 Matting Basics A and create a hinged card with the fold at the top of the card
With #7 from Matting Basics B cut one panel in yellow
With #5 from Fancy Diamonds cut one piece in yellow
Create the frame  in white with #3 from the Decorative Fancy Diamond and #4 from the plain diamond
Put some small foam pads around the edge of the frame and add it to the yellow diamond

Cut two pieces in white from the corner die and loop the two pieces together using the curls in the pattern, as shown in the photo.
 Add a spot of glue to hold them together
Place small foam pads around this so that they are hidden in the swirls and this will be layered on top of the Fancy Diamonds shape
Cut the phrase that you wish to use in the set from black card and craft foam and glue them together
Again add small foam pads to the back layering them to the height that is required to span across the centre piece
Ink up the texture plate and lay some white card on top and run it through your machine with the emboss sandwich to create the letter press pattern
You will need two of these so you can move the texture plate along the card, being careful to match up the pattern and repeat the process ... OR you can simply do it twice and have two separate panels
If you create two separate panels then you will need to match up the patterns and once glued you can cut them to the size of the card.  I layered mine to some yellow card to leave a small border around the sides
The lace and the ribbon will wrap around the panel and hide the join
Once all these components are done you can now start to build the card.
Add some small pearls to the textured panel
I decided to use some wider lace on my card and I think it looks much better.

A different view ...

Hi Everybody,

This card is not a water colour but is created on black card with Spectrum Noir Pencils.

It was just something I was playing around with the other day to see how it would turn out.

The outline to the flower has been heat embossed in gold and then coloured in.

I think the pencils showed up really well on the black card and makes a card with a difference especially for me.

Not sure if I like the card but it was worth playing with on a cold winters day !!

However I do love the stamp which is  Peony Scrolls  from Alte New and there is also a  matching die

I bought both of mine from  Sevenhills Crafts  and they stock a lot of the US stamps on their website

The sentiment was stamped and embossed in the same gold onto some black card and the trimmed into a little banner.   The card is from Papermill Direct and is a 255 gsm so a really good quality

Scheduled Video

Hi Everybody,

A little while I shared with you that I was going to be adding video tutorials to YouTube on a regular basis on the first and third Thursday of every month.

The first one  Caught In Crystal  was added on the 4th Feb without a hitch and had a really good response.

In the space of one week I gained a lot of new subscribers to my channel since I added the Channel Trailer so if you are one of them then Thank You so much,

The next one New Baby Cards goes live today and is in response to several request I had about how I made the Baby Cards

But in between those two I have added yet another one called  Ink Smooshing  and I have more scheduled to go out each Thursday

You will find it on my YT Channel  if you click the link above, along with all the other videos I have made.

And if you have not already subscribed to my channel then please feel free to join me.

I hope you will enjoy the video and that it can give you some ideas on what to make in your crafting time.

The lace, flowers, white leaves and the bows centre piece are all from Wild Orchid Crafts  and the tiny pink pearls are self adhesive from Want2Scrap

The ribbon is from  Mei Flower  and of course the dies are from Spellbinders

And just in case you have missed it there is a new page here on the blog  listing all the places where I buy the supplies that I use on my cards. It is titled "Pretty Things I Use" and the link to it is in the side bar to your right

Wednesday Water Colour - Best Birthday

Hi Everybody,

These cute little images are  from a stamp set called  Best Birthday and I bought mine from  Clearly Besotted  and I really enjoyed making this card.

There is a matching die set  that can be bought separately from the same company

You will find the link to them permanently listed on the Pretty Things...  page in the side bar to the right.

They have a wonderful selection of stamps and dies and they are a UK company.

I have bought many sets from them and they have lovely sentiments too

So back to the card.... I stamped and masked off the images in the arrangement I wanted

I sat and water coloured them with the Gansai Tambi paints.

Then once it was dry I added in Glossy Accents to create the shine.

I added it to the card front with craft foam underneath as this helps to flatten the water colored card and then I rounded the corners of panel and card base.  The flowery strip down the left is Washi Tape just to finish the look.

Tuesday Tutorial - Gilded Gate Two

Hi Everybody,

Lots of us have the small Die D-Lites dies from Spellbinders  and after using them as intended we run out of ideas with what to do with them. Well here is a new idea that you may like to try and this uses the Gilded Gate Two
 So when is a gate not a gate ?? When it becomes the background to your card !!
Spellbinders Supplies:

Other Supplies:
With #7 from Matting Basics A cut two pieces and  create a hinged card  for the base
With #7 from Matting Basics B cut another in white and hand cut another in turquoise to layer in between the base card and the layer leaving a really fine border around the edges
(Please remember that die #1 is always the smallest)
With #3 from Elegant Label Four cut one piece in turquoise and layer this with foam tape to the white layer from the previous step
With the Gilded  Gate cut two of them and spray them with adhesive and then sprinkle with glitter
(Alternatively cut from glitter card)
From the sentiment dies I have cut Love You in black card and craft foam and glued the two together for dimension
Add the two gates to mirror each other onto the layered turquoise and white card leaving a gap in the centre of the card ...
... and this gap will be covered by some satin ribbon and a looped bow with the sparkly buckle for an added touch. Layer these onto the hand cut turquoise card from an earlier step
Add the words as you would like them and then add all these layers to your base card
You will need to add a little extra glue to the back of the words to make them stick to the glitter
Dress with flowers if you wish

Hi Everybody,

It's that time of the month when some of the International Ambassadors like to invite you to Blog Hop so that you can see what each of us has to offer. We all have varying styles and we love to share with you our love of Spellbinders and all things crafty.

This month  the theme is butterflies and flowers and each one of us will have created something a little different.

For my card I have used a number of different Spellbinders dies ... starting with the base I have used the 5x7 Matting Basics A.

Topped that with Detailed Scallops and then added in the Floral Ovals ... all raised up with foam sheets to give dimension

The darker oval is the Classic Scalloped Oval and the sentiment is stamped and embossed onto the Classic Ovals.

The butterflies in the top right corner are Les Papillions Two and the flowers and tiny butterflies in the left corner are from Marisa's Bouquet.

Now it's time for you to visit the others. They are waiting for you so please pop along and see what these lovely and super talented ladies have to offer ...

Labour of Love ...

Hi Everybody,

All these Baby Shower cards have been made for my Grand-Daughter Robyn  who is expecting her first baby in May

I am going to be a Great Gran again and we know that this new baby is a boy.  Four year old Isabella is my first Great Grand-Daughter so one of each ... so far !!

I made forty of them for her to invite her friends to her baby shower and I will add them all to envelopes and box them as my gift to her.

I have used the Wild Thing  stamp set from Clearly Besotted and I also have the matching die that I used to cut them all out.

I have used the same white card from Papermill Direct for my top fold base card and the Blue spotty card from AnnaMarie Design

The  New Baby stamp is also from Clearly Besotted and there is a matching die to buy separately

All the images have been stamped and water coloured and then die cut to fit the oval shapes

There is variation in the lace added around the layers and I have dotted the pearls  from Want2Scrap differently on the cards too.

I only used three of the animals from the set and to each of the giraffes I have added googly eyes.  The lion and tigers have Glossy Accent noses.

I have to say I am really happy with the way these cards turned out and it was a labour of love indeed as it took me two full days to get them done

And I am pleased that Robyn was delighted with them as well ... Job done!

It is a 5x7 top hinged card and would be suitable for any occasion.

The crochet lace matches in with t the colour scheme and on each of the dots in the paper I have added a small self adhesive  pearl

The white ribbon is from Mei Flower   and the centre to the knot is from Wild Orchid Crafts

There is a strip of pearls from Want2Scrap along the edge of the card and I have rounded the outside corners to the card

Water Colour Wednesday - Tilda Bee

Hi Everybody,

The other day that I was sorting through my stamps and putting them in clear plastic wallets, and labelling them for easy future reference

Some of them are old ones and have been used quite a lot over the years.

But I thought that I would get them all out again and re do them with the Water Colours that I bought ME for Christmas !!.

So this is Tilda and I stamped her onto water colour card from Crafters Companion

I used Versafine Onyx Black Ink, because it is water proof, and I heat embossed her with clear powder.

Then I have painted her with Gansai Tambi paints.

She was so much fun and I really enjoyed colouring this image and I found a sentiment stamp that seemed to just fit.

I went over the wings with Wink Of Stella clear glitter pen to give a soft sheen to them.

The image has been cut out with the Pierced Rectangles  from Spellbinders and then matted onto some card that blended with the image.

Another card that would be suitable for a child ... or maybe some adults would like it too

Tuesday Tutorial - Victorian Numbers

Hi Everybody,

We have used the Alphabets on several cards on the past few months but for today I thought we could dig out the numbers a see what we can do with them.  I am sure that many of you have these dies ... or numbers of some description ... and this is a pretty card to make for a special birthday or anniversary.

 Spellbinders Supplies:

  • S6-001 5x7 Matting Basics A
  • S6-002 5x7 Matting Basics B
  • S4-540 Victorian Numbers
  • EL-002 Regal embossing folder
  • GC-200 Grand Calibur Die Cutting and Embossing Machine
  • Raspberry Adapter Plate
Other Supplies:
With die #7 Matting Basica A cut two pieces of white card and
With die #7 Matting Basics B cut one layer in some pretty card
With die #6 Matting Basics A cut another layer in white
Add your chosen numbers to the white card in the top right hand corner. Space them out as you like and tape them to the card so that they don't slip and cross each other in your die cutter
Tape the numbers that you wish to use for the birthday onto the patterned card,
Add them in the opposite corner where they will not interfere with the white card and cut them out
Stamp the sentiment onto the white card and then emboss it.
You need to stamp first because the card will be un even once it has been embossed and difficult to stamp
 Add the white embossed layer over the patterned layer with foam pads in between.
Cut the foam pads if you need smaller ones and space them evenly around the numbers to support them on the card
Add in the pink numbers near the sentiment. I have covered my numbers with glossy accents and sprinkled them with glitter.
Once they are dry I  threaded a silver key on to the Bakers Twine and wrapped it around the layers, tying a small bow into the twine
With foam tape in between I added it these layers to my base card.

Valentine Heart

Hi Everybody,

For todays card I thought I would stay with the traditional colours for Valentines Day and I have used card from Papermill Direct  for the base and the heart.

I have used the Classic Hearts and Scalloped Classic Hearts from Spellbinders but I cannot link to them yet as SB website is down

I have turned this into a shaker card and filled it with sequins and it looks really effective. The sequins are a good sized bag from the £££ Shop so a really cheap buy.

They do them in other colours too and they just happened to fall into my basket at the same time !!

The ribbon and lace around the bottom keep it girly and the card is better in the hand than a photograph

The lace and the bows centre are from Wild Orchid Crafts

The little red hearts are die cut from a small Spellbinders die that is part of another set but it really came in handy for this card

New Page Added

Over in the right hand side bar I have added in a new page called "Pretty Things I Use " that lists all the suppliers that I use for my work. Just click the picture to go to the new page
 It will be there as a permanent page to the resources so that you can click  each of the links on that page and see what they have to offer.

Todays Winner is ...

Hi Everybody,

It's raining here again today and we are going out to eat later in the day to a little pub near by.  It has all the Slimming World things for me like grilled chicken and salad and jacket potatoes so I can have a good tuck in.

And if you are a SW member then you will know what I mean when I say it is all FREE.  I don't mean cost wise but the Syn value .... SW people will understand.  Then it's home again to settle down for some TV this evening

The draw has been done for the turquoise card from yesterday and the name drawn from the hat is

 Sylvia Zammit ...
can you email me please
christina@card-making-magic.com
with your postal address and the card will be on it's way to you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When a winner is announced I have no way to contact you that the card is yours other than here on the blog so you need to come back and check and then email me in the next 48 hours if you wish to receive the card.
Since the New Year started I have offered these cards as freebies and they have had a good response ... BUT I do not understand why people add their name and then don't check the result.
Two names have been announced and the cards have not been claimed.
 I won't mention the names but both have been back on the blog since and still not checked the back pages that are here.
I am paying the postage so all you need to do is tell me where you are.
This card was the subject of a Tuesday Tutorial way back last February and all the dies were listed then.
The inside is also decorated to match the front and it has a sentiment on the front that says "On Your Retirement"  but that can easily be changed if you wanted to use it for another occasion
If you add your name and comment then please come back to check if you are the winner. You will have 48 hours in which to claim it
YouTube ...
Hi Everybody,
The other day I mentioned that I was going to start scheduling videos to YouTube on a regular basis and they would be added twice a month ... on the first and third Thursday each month.
This seems to have been misread by some people and they think that this is the First video I have done.
Oh NO! it is not the first ... there are 270 already on my YouTube channel  for you to view and I have them on my website at Card Making Magic  as well as on these pages in the Video Tutorials section in the title bar
I am simply adding them regularly so that you know each month when a new one will be added and by subscribing to YouTube you won't miss any.
They are free to watch and will eventually be on both website and blog. This is just a way of making myself more disciplined and regular with my work each month.
So today is the day that the video Caught In Crystal Technique goes  "Live" for February as it is the first Thursday in the month.  The next one will be due  on the 18 th and I am working on that one at the moment.
I really hope you will enjoy these videos ... and of course the ones that are already there and I thank you for all the support and the comments that you take the time to leave for me
Water Colour Wednesday - Sealed with a Kiss
Hi Everybody,
Todays water colour is using an image from Make It Crafty
There are many images and background scenes for you to choose from.
This one is called Sealed with A Kiss  and it is so intricately drawn
I have coloured her with Gansai Tambi Water Colours  and I am quite pleased with the result though it did take me some time to complete
The flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts  and I have used some foiled teal card from Hunkydory for the background. The finished card is 6x6 and I have no idea where it is going.
Tuesday Tutorial - Vintage Lace
Hi Everybody,
I have been a collector of Spellbinders for many years now and these are some of the first ones I ever bought.  I always bought the Accent dies that matched the Motifs and that way I could get the most out of all the sets.
This particular set is the Vintage Lace Accents and Motifs and they are now retired from Spellbinders website. If you shop around to other places you may still be able to buy them but I wanted to include tutorials with older dies as I know that many of us have them in our collections
Spellbinders Supplies:
  • S6-001 5x7 Matting Basics A
  • S6-002 5x7 Matting Basics B
  • Vintage Lace Motifs
  • Vintage Lace Accents
  • S4-114 Standard Circles LG
Other Supplies:
With die #7 Matting Basics A cut two panels and create a hinged card  for your base
With die #7 Matting Basics B cut another panel in your chosen colour
From the Vintage Lace Accents and Motifs cut the largest circular dies in white and from the border strip cut six pieces in white.
From dies #4 and #6 cut these circles in blue to layer under the lace panels
Add the border strips to the blue panel spacing them out evenly across the panel.
 Have a dry run before you glue them into place so that you are happy with the look and the glue them in place. Trim the edges for a neat finish.
I hand cut another blue panel to fit slightly smaller than the base and layered this lace panel onto it so that it also leaves a small border.
Layer up the lace circles with their corresponding blue ones and use foam tape in between the layers
Stamp and emboss your sentiment and add to your card front.
Wrap all the layers with ribbon before adding to your base card and place a double bow in the centre
Cover the bows knot with a dazzler and dot pearls around the sentiment for effect
News ...
Hi Everybody,
If you are a visitor to my website Card Making Magic ... then you may know that you can download a free booklet if you leave me your email address. It also adds your name to my website mailing list and then you will get a copy of the ezine when I publish one and I try to do that each month.
The last one went out on Friday to almost 13,000 people. In that ezine I told folks that I have been doing some training with YouTube and one of the things they advise "Video Creators" to do is add videos on a regular basis.
Now I must admit that I have been a bit hit and miss with this particular point and have added them as I have gone along. Well all that is going to change and I am now going to add two videos per month on the 1st and 3rd week each month.
So now I can have a mammoth video making session and then schedule them for the designated days and hopefully that will attract more followers to my YouTube channel. At the moment I have 32,735 followers which is absolutely amazing but I would like the channel to grow and get more. Between them they have notched up over 6 million views of my work
And working on the principal that if you don't ask you don't get .... I am asking all of YOU ... if you are not a subscriber to my YouTube channel yet then will you please become one.
I am at   christina1716  and there is an introductory video if you are a new subscriber.
The first video for this month will be live this Thursday and it features the Caught In Crystal Technique.
The card shows you what it looks like and it is super easy to do.  The worst part is waiting for it to dry and that is usually overnight.
I hope you will help me to grow the YouTube channel in the coming months
Click this link if you would like to join the mailing list then add your emails address at  Card Making Magic  and then you can follow the instructions to download the free booklet
And there you have two links where you can find and follow me ... and that would be wonderful
More tomorrow ...
Hugs xx
